Mildred Pierce 1945

For comparisation -
my shots from the Todd-Haynes-Kate-Winlset-HBO-adaption

In the beginning of Mildred's life story (not the beginning of the 1945 film though!) her husband is leaving her for a certain Mrs. Biederhof.

Mildred saw only one way to get out of that misery:
To take a job as a waitress.

More (a lot more) after the jump

But that oldest daughter of hers is ungrateful!

(This family drama is beyond additional words)

Thankfully Mildred learned a lot whilst being a waitress and is now capable of opening her own restaurant!

But Monte (he was Monty in HBO's) had more on his mind than that!

Mildred is quickly persuaded.

Those first scenes at the beach house were done very similar in the miniseries!

 Oh, Monte.

But - as in Todd Hayne's extended version - it proved to be a mistake to spend the night with Monte...

It's very serious.

But life goes on... and with it, the opening of Mildred's restaurant.

Bert has a feeling that Monte isn't good for Mildred, and he should prove right later...

The relationship with Monte is going down.
Wally telling her that Monte is wasting a lot of her money isn't helping it.

And Veda is completely out of control!

It's over. Mildred should be glad about it!
But Veda is again turning her back on her...

That nasty girl is even gong as far as slapping her own mother!

Back to business is the only way. Let Ida be your role model!

But Mildred has to know what Veda is up to now.
She is still trying to win her back...

(Sigh. I love her pained expressions.)

This girl still refuses her!
Oh. And Monte is back, but the love is over.

This engagement is nothing but a social and financial agreement.

When Mildred finally gets married to Monte, her wishes come true and Veda comes back...

But it is all no good!
One day Mildred comes home...

Obviously.

But Veda had learnt nothing - Monte cannot be trusted!

All right, I won't say anything more about the end of it all.

Except that Mildred will finally live for herself (not that daughter) and the man joining her in the end is ex husband Bert, who proved to be a good friend and will help her back on her feet!
